If you’re planning to visit the Aegean this season, here’s some inspiration and a look at the best Bodrum harbour towns to add to your itinerary.

Bodrum Castle

Bodrum Town (Bodrum Merkez)

Bodrum’s town centre and old town are located in the city’s heart, within easy reach of the castle and Milta Marina. It is made up of a fascinating warren of narrow streets, pretty whitewashed houses, and historic buildings that give a nod back to the area’s past. There’s lots to see and do in central Bodrum, so most guests and crew will enjoy a little time onshore. Highlights of Bodrum Town include:

  • Bodrum Castle (Castle of St. Peter): Bodrum Castle is the town’s most iconic landmark, dominating the skyline on approach. Dating back to the 15th century and built by the Knights of St. John, the castle is home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology shipwrecks and artefacts recovered in the Aegean. Depending on the size of the yacht, we can arrange for you to anchor off the castle or for a reservation in Milta Marina.
  • Mausoleum at Halicarnassus: Located in Bodrum Old Town, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus is a popular site to see as it is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today, it lies in ruins, but it does offer fabulous views over Bodrum.
  • The Amphitheatre: Bodrum Amphitheatre is a well-preserved 4th-century ancient theatre located just outside town. Concerts are held at the site throughout the year, so let us know when you are coming in case there’s an event you may wish to attend.
  • Windmills: Windmills are scattered throughout Bodrum Old Town that were once used to make flour.
  • Great Shopping and Dining: Bodrum Old Town has a good selection of high-end boutiques, stores, and galleries, so it’s a great place to indulge in some retail therapy. The town also has some incredible restaurants guests should enjoy, including Orfoz, Hakkasan, and Tuti, all of which are listed in the Michelin Guide.

Yalikavak

Yalıkavak

Yalikavak, the charming former fishing village turned upscale resort, is known for its luxury marina, stunning sunsets, and high-end designer shopping and dining. It’s a town that appears on almost every Türkiye superyacht itinerary, as it has a lot to offer yachts, guests, and crew. Yalikavak highlights include:

  • Blissful Beaches and Bays: Yalikavak’s clear waters, soft sands, and beach clubs make it a great option for those who want to relax onshore. Xuma Beach Club, Bagatelle Bodrum, and Magi Beach are both within reach, and there are many bays in the vicinity we can add to the itinerary if you want to escape the crowds.
  • First Class Marina: Most on the circuit will be familiar with Yalikavak Marina, which is ranked as one of the best in the world. It was the first in Türkiye to receive a 5 Gold Anchor Platinum rating, so as you would expect, the on-site yachting and lifestyle facilities are superb. The facility has 620 beds and caters to yachts up to 140 LOA. In addition, guests can enjoy designer shopping in the likes of Dior and D&G, a selection of fine international restaurants, a luxury hotel and spa, and a wide range of other amenities.
  • Cultural Charm: Throughout Yalikavak, you will find ancient ruins and old stone buildings. The Yalikavak Windmills are a real highlight, affording panoramic views over the Aegean.
  • Excellent Eats: The gourmets on board will love Yalikavak’s culinary scene, which offers a mix of traditional Turkish and international flavours. The area is famous for its fresh seafood, and you can savour many delicious meals at the waterfront restaurants overlooking the marina. Alternatively, ask us to reserve you a table at Novikov, Sait, Nusr-et, Zuma, or Birds by Vasilchuk Bros, which have all proved popular with guests.

Gumusluk

Gümüşlük

Tucked away on the western tip of the Bodrum Peninsular, Gümüşlük is a small, low-key fishing village with a lot to offer guests seeking an authentic Turkish experience. Here, you can escape the bustling tourist hotspots and enjoy a great seafood dinner, stroll around the cafes and arty boutiques, visit ancient sites, or simply sip a cool drink and watch the world go by. Highlights of Gümüşlük include:

  • Ancient City of Myndos: Gümüşlük is built on the site of the ancient city of Myndos, which dates to the 10th century BC. Although much of the site now lies in ruins, you can still view the ancient city walls and see some of the footings of the remains submerged in the sea.
  • Rabbit Island (Tavşan Adası): Between the two main beaches in Gümüşlük is Rabbit Island, which is connected to the mainland by a causeway. The island is named due to the number of wild rabbits that inhabit the land, and it is now a popular spot for tourists to visit, swim, and snorkel.
  • Fish and Seafood Dinners: If you’re looking for a phenomenal local seafood dinner, Gümüşlük is the place to go. The village is famed for its waterside seafood restaurants where you can enjoy a seafood or fresh fish lunch or dinner overlooking the beautiful bay.
  • The Arts: The laid-back feel and traditional charm of Gümüşlük have led it to be home to many artists and craftspeople, many of whom showcase their work in local galleries.

Turkbuku

Türkbükü (Goltürkbükü)

Located on the northern tip of the Bodrum Peninsular, Turkbuku is another fishing village turned high-end escape now pegged as one of the Turkish coast’s most fashionable destinations. Turkbuku gained recognition due to its alluring blend of charm, beauty, culture, and new luxury hotels and dining experiences. Highlights of Turkbuku include:

  • Luxury Resorts and Beach Clubs: Turkbuku is well known for its pristine beaches and turquoise sea, so it is now home to many fine resorts and beach clubs, such as The Edition, Amanruya, and the celebrity haunt Macakizi.
  • Fine Dining: Turkbuku’s culinary scene lures most guests, as most tastes are catered to. We can arrange tables and nights out at a variety of local and internationally-inspired restaurants. Guest favourites include Lucca by the Sea and the fine Michelin Star fare served at Macakizi,
  • Explore the Town: Turkbuku has a good selection of upscale shops, boutiques, bars, and cafes that come alive after dark. Take an evening stroll along the waterfront promenade and stock up on some local arts, crafts, and souvenirs before retiring back to the yacht.

Gundogan Bodrum

Gündoğan

For those seeking a slower pace of life, Gundogan, located between Yalikavak and Turkbuku, should suffice. This authentic, sleepy Aegean village and its charming harbourfront offer a peaceful retreat nestled between olive grove-lined hills. Gundogan highlights include:

  • Traditional Charm: Gundogan provides a real contrast to the glitz and glamour of Yalikavak. It’s a place where you can pop on the sunhat and shades and wander the quaint streets, visit the weekly market, or sip a Turkish tea or coffee and watch the world pass by.
  • Waterside Dining: Many local seafood restaurants are right at the water’s edge in Gundogan. Take your pick, or let us arrange a table for you.
  • Take to the Hills: Gundogan is within easy reach of several ancient sites and some beautiful hiking trails. If you or the guests fancy getting active, let us organise a privately guided trek along a local coastal path or a visit to one of the area’s historic sites.
